Man United 2-2 Villa. Dec 1st.

We’ve fared poorly at Old Trafford in the last twenty years, I can’t remember the last time we won there and even draws have been like rocking horse manure. So to come away disappointed with just a solitary point was quite something, yet had we had a bit of luck we’d have won (Grealish missing a sitter, Trezeguet thumping the bar and we had one disallowed by the narrowest of offside margins).

I watched this with my brother Chris from the comfort of his sofa in Boca Raton, Florida. I was over there visiting his family and landed on a great fixture to share with him. We agreed at the outset that a point would be acceptable so shouldn’t be churlish, but when Grealish scored a worldy after ten minutes then we dominated the first half it seemed we might rightfully expect more. Rashford equalised though after some shilly shallying from Mings, then United stole the lead into the second half with a back post header after our hapless striker, Wesley, had inadvertently flicked on a cross. Spirits however were lifted when Mings volleyed home from close range, he looked way offside so didn’t bother to celebrate but VAR came to our rescue and the goal stood.

2-2 at Man United is not to be sniffed at, we’ll take that. Chris and I celebrated with a trip to Boca beach, Florida might be 4,000 miles from Villa Park but boy does it have its benefits.
