Man City 3-0 Villa. Oct 26th.

A trip to Man City these days is something of a free hit, you expect to come away with nothing but if you do shock the nation and earn a point, it’s a bonus. Earn three and you’re in nosebleed territory. At halftime we were starting to dream, but order was restored within sixty seconds of the second half and we came away with the bugger-all we’d predicted.

First things first, our away kit is an eyesore, dear oh dear who designed that? It’s some sort of deep green affair with black sleeves and red numbers on the back, an intricate pattern woven in to worsen the look. It’s truly horrible and a long way from our glorious away tops of yesteryear, plain white or yellow numbers, proper football shirts.

But talk of ugly apparel mustn’t divert us from the performance of those wearing it. We defended strongly throughout the first half and can be forgiven for offering little attacking threat given the opposition, but were undone by a powder puff goal seconds into the second half. Their keeper lumped the ball forward, Mings was easily muscled away for the aerial flick-on and Sterling ran on to prod it home. Too easy. That was the beginning of the end and we were thankful from that point on just to keep the score down. We could have been reduced to ten men when Grealish’s impetuousness got the better of him, other refs would have issued a second yellow, so at least we avoided him getting suspended, something we could well do without.

No harm done with this defeat I suppose, we expected nothing and that’s just what we got. Apologies for the lack of detail but I wrote this game off before it began and did likewise with my memory of it.
