Villa 2-2 Burnley. Sep 28th.

By any estimation, a draw at home to Burnley is a disappointment, but considering we lead the game twice it’s even more disappointing. We need to be winning games like this and if we get a nosebleed leading against bang average opposition like this, we’ve got problems. Granted, there aren’t any easy games in the Premiership but there are much harder ones to come and if we don’t collect three points at home to the likes of Burnley, we just heap pressure on ourselves when facing the big boys.

Our best player today was John McGinn, as ever. The bloke’s all action, he never gives in, doesn’t hide or grumble, he just does his job. The same can’t be said of certain teammates however, their lily livered approach fair making the toes curl, and if they think they’re camouflaging their cowardice by whinging at the referee or rolling about on the floor each time they bail out of a fifty-fifty, they’re kidding nobody. Our twenty plus million signing, Wesley, a brick outhouse of a man spearheading our attack, is brushed off the ball as if a mere schoolboy. He’s so lame. Our trickiest winger in years, the skilful El Ghazi, mesmerises defenders beautifully but the moment they breathe on him he goes down like a sack of potatoes. It’s embarrassing. Were these two to stand up like men and fight for the ball instead of wimping out all the time, the teammates behind them would up their game, match their commitment. Instead, fear and trepidation courses through the side and we surrender games we should be putting to bed. A rot sets in and it starts from the front.

We took the lead twice today before gifting equalisers with half hearted challenges and a general abandonment of duty. We played ok, we should have won, but Burnley only needed to show their teeth and we ran for cover,  pooping our pants all the way. When will we learn? Hopefully not too late. It’s Norwich at Carrow Road next week, they’re likely to be co-relegation candidates, but the last time they played at home they beat league champions Manchester City. As I say, there are no easy fixtures in the Premiership.
